Programme Overview

ATDERA's multi-specialty rotation is an extended clinical exposure programme for qualified physicians who wish to develop breadth of clinical perspective across multiple hospital departments within a single structured engagement. Over four to eight weeks, participants rotate through two to four departments selected in advance on the basis of the participant's postgraduate training background and professional development objectives.

Each departmental rotation is structured around the department's own academic and clinical calendar. Participants attend ward rounds, departmental MDT meetings, grand rounds, and case presentation sessions alongside resident and consultant staff. The rotation is designed to provide substantive immersion in each department rather than superficial exposure: a minimum block duration within each specialty is agreed before commencement to ensure that the participant experiences the full clinical and academic rhythm of the department.

ACGME-aligned competency domains — patient care, medical knowledge, interpersonal communication, professionalism, and systems-based practice — are used as an organisational framework for participant self-reflection across rotations, regardless of whether the participant is registered in a formal ACGME programme. A named ATDERA programme coordinator provides continuity across the rotation, attending the inter-departmental transition points and facilitating structured reflection sessions. Eligibility requires a primary medical degree and a minimum of two years of postgraduate clinical experience.
