Clinical Observership & Involvement
Surgical Observership Programme
Shadow senior surgeons in the operating theatre. Attend ward rounds, MDT meetings, and morbidity & mortality conferences. Structured exposure across selected surgical specialties.
Programme Overview
ATDERA's surgical observership places licensed physicians and senior residents directly within active operating theatre environments at Turkey's leading teaching hospitals and JCI-accredited surgical centres. Over two to four weeks of full-time clinical observation, participants shadow experienced senior surgeons through the complete perioperative pathway — pre-operative assessment, operative exposure, and post-operative ward management — across one or more selected surgical specialties.
Observership is structured, not passive. Each participant is allocated a named supervising consultant who provides context before and after procedures, explains decision-making in real time where clinical circumstances permit, and directs the participant to appropriate additional learning resources. In addition to theatre sessions, participants attend ward rounds, MDT conferences, and structured M&M conferences — the last of which provides particular insight into surgical governance, complication management, and institutional quality processes.
Specialty scope is agreed in advance based on the participant's clinical background and professional objectives. Available surgical specialties span general surgery, orthopaedics, urology, ENT, and cardiothoracic, subject to current clinical programme availability. All participation is observational within the meaning of Turkish and host-institution clinical governance rules; participants do not perform procedures or provide clinical care. Eligibility is restricted to licensed physicians or senior residents in their final training years.
