Programme Overview

ATDERA's research fellowship embeds qualified physicians and postgraduate researchers within active clinical departments at partner teaching hospitals and research-active medical centres in Turkey for periods of three to twelve months. Each fellow is assigned a named principal investigator who leads an ongoing research project and who takes direct responsibility for the fellow's academic development and integration into the department's research activity.

The fellowship is structured around genuine research contribution rather than passive observation. Fellows participate in data collection, management, and analysis using methods appropriate to the project — which may include clinical audit, retrospective cohort analysis, prospective data collection under ethical approval, or systematic review methodology. Under the PI's supervision, fellows contribute to manuscript preparation from early-draft stage through to submission-ready final version, including navigating the journal selection process, responding to reviewer comments, and understanding the editorial expectations of clinical research publications.

In addition to research activity, fellows receive observational clinical exposure relevant to the department's specialty, attending ward rounds, MDT meetings, and departmental academic sessions. This clinical integration ensures that the research work is grounded in direct understanding of the clinical problems being investigated. Detailed ORCID profile development and publication record building are supported throughout. The programme is appropriate for physicians targeting academic clinical careers, specialty training programmes that value research experience, or postgraduate researchers expanding their clinical research portfolio.
