Programme Overview

ATDERA's visiting scholar programme is a one-to-three-month senior academic engagement for experienced clinician-academics, associate professors, and professors seeking to contribute substantively to Turkish academic medicine while developing collaborative research relationships with counterpart faculty. It is not an observational placement — visiting scholars are expected to bring their own academic perspective and contribute actively to the intellectual life of their host department.

The programme is structured around three parallel activities. First, visiting scholars deliver a defined programme of guest lectures and teaching sessions for resident and postgraduate audiences within the host department, covering subject matter agreed in advance with the departmental lead. Second, scholars engage with ongoing departmental research: this may involve contributing to active studies, providing methodological or statistical input on projects in development, or initiating new collaborative lines of inquiry with Turkish counterparts. Third, scholars contribute to joint publication activity — either by co-authoring manuscripts under development within the department or by bringing their own research to the collaborative authorship environment.

ATDERA coordinates faculty matching, department integration, and all operational logistics. Scholars receive access to hospital library resources, data systems (subject to ethics and governance approvals), and relevant departmental meetings throughout their stay. The programme is structured to generate lasting collaborative outputs, with co-authorship and ongoing correspondence with Turkish academic counterparts as expected long-term outcomes.
